Mexico Quintana Roo

Sistema Dos Ojos - cave diving for all levels!

Dos Ojos competes with Nohoch for the No.1 of the largest measured cave in Q.Roo. Now it counts 60,6 km surveyed guidelines. But the exploration is still not finished yet.

Cenotes named Dream Gate and Rain Drop insert themselves into the total area DO and wait to be connected with the main system.

We can not give details to the large number of DO's cenotes: the approaches and entrances are too different.

Nevertheless some details: sorry- this information will be updated soon! 2010 changed a looot!

Location: south of the waterpark "Xel Ha" of direction Chetumal, approx. 8 km before Tulum - you can`t miss it!

Access:
Entrance as well as the actual “Dos Ojos” mark the “west eye” and can approx. 3 km in the jungle on the badly prepared road with the own car be started and in self-direction to dive.
A jeep is here from advantage, absolutely necessary after heavy rain!

Entrance fee : 80 Pesos

The entrance “Hidden Worlds” is operated by the American Buddy Quattelbaum.
Guided Cavern dives and snorkel tours only!
Tourist adventure the Heart of the Yucatan Jungle!
To ride a “jungle-mobilely” is just fun!
Interesting technique to get the tanks down to the cenote...

Price for a guided Caverndive apprx.60 USD.
Reservation is required, 3 Caverntours: 9:00am,11:00am, and 1:00pm daily.

Cave insider may dip with Buddys extra permission into " Hilarius Well" ; "Peers House", "Mundo escondido", "Tak Be Loom" oder "Tak Be Ha" and with completely much luck into “The pit”! By the way: Mr. Cenote himself, Buddy Quattelbaum, has probably explored more virgin underground terrain around here than anyone else.

max. depth: 8 meter ( the pit range a bit deeper ;-)

water Temp: 75 degrees F (24 celsius)

restooms: yes, both entrances

best dive:
large traverse downstream (after appropriate preparation), approx. 3.5 hours cave route, depending upon current.

  • access: westeye, downstream tunnel, past at Dos Palmas, further pass High Voltage, Tapirs end, Monolito, jump south, Peers House exit.
  • Now walk to the shop and organize a Jungle mobil to get a ride with your equipment!
  • Note! This is syphon side! But feel the sweat before the wages: place your markers against the current !!!

DOS Ojos was the choice for the photographs and the IMAX movie “Journey into Amazing Caves” in and around the Cenotes in 1999.
The new thriller movie "The Cave" was filmed at HIDDEN WORLDS. You probably will recognize “Tak Be Ha” in some scenes!
